Lois Dean
Lois C. Dean, an important loving member of the Napoleon area community, passed away on October 8, 2019, surrounded by her family in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Lois was born on July 29, 1930, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Cecilia (Ross) Finnell in Covington, KY. She grew up in the Napoleon area and was a proud "Bearcat," graduating from Napoleon High School in 1948.
Lois was a faithful and lifelong member of the Napoleon United Methodist Church. She enjoyed helping with the youth, whether it be Sunday School or Vacation Bible School. At the young age of 16 she spread her wings and worked at Schrafft's Restaurant in New York City, spent a couple years working at the Grand Canyon, making several new friends while there. However, she would return to her "roost" in Napoleon and marry Joe Dean in 1949. She was working in offices in Indianapolis and Cincinnati. After the children were grown, she spent several years helping kids once again as the secretary for guidance counselor Mr. Wolter at Jac-Cen-Del High School. Lois completed her working career at Hill-Rom.
Retirement didn't see her slow down, as she donated countless hours to Margaret Mary Hospital helping to deliver medicines from the pharmacy to patients. She was an accomplished Euchre and Pinochle player, playing several times a week around Ripley and Decatur County. She was extremely competitive, gracious in her winning, while often losing. She was always up for a trip to the "Boat," having several lucky streaks as of late.
Lois enjoyed cooking and baking; her cream pies were often the favorite of gathering groups. She was passionate about her Indiana Hoosiers and Cincinnati Reds. She enjoyed watching them and putting her favorite puzzles together.
Lois loved her family, and her friends appreciated her steadfast loyalty. Her passing will leave a big hole in Napoleon and with her family. She was proud of her Native American Heritage.
She is survived by daughter, Rebecca (Stephen) Stein of Batesville; sons, Benjamin "Benny" of Napoleon and David (Angela) of Tampa, Florida; grandchildren, Teill Nicole, Joseph, Brandie, Matt, and Alyssa; and great-grandchildren, Mylie Marcum, Gage Vicosnic, and Mason Dean.
Lois was preceded in death by husband Joe; sisters Sherry Woolf and Sidney Rohlfing; her parents Ben and Cecelia Finnell; and infant son Douglas Scott.
Visitation will be held on Sunday October 13, 2019, from 12-2 pm. at Neal's Funeral Home in Osgood. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm. also at Neal's Funeral Home with burial following at the Napoleon Lutheran Church.
