Ruth Jeraldine Abplanalp Hoyer, 93, Batesville, died Monday, Feb. 20, 2017. She was born April 13, 1923, in Adams in Decatur County, the daughter of Clarence and Sophie Fruchtnicht Abplanalp.
Ruth married Howard Hoyer June 14, 1947. He preceded her in death. She graduated from Napoleon High School and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Crossroads. Ruth was a homemaker and loved her life on the family farm. She was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruth loved socializing and was a 4-H leader for many years and a member of the Hobby Nobby Club. She enjoyed gardening and playing cards.
Ruth is survived by one son, William L. Hoyer, Wichita, Kansas; four daughters and their husbands: Pat and Ron Green, Batesville, Carolyn and Jim Carpenter, Syracuse, Indiana, Nancy and Robert Wren, Round Rock, Texas, and Mary and Mick Mehlon, Oldenburg; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
She's also survived by two brothers, Alfred Abplanalp and George Abplanalp; and two sisters, Betty Griswold and Susan Hankins.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Leah May Johnson and Mary Hoover.
Visitation will be Friday Feb. 24, from 10 a.m.-1p.m. followed by services at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Crossroads, with the Rev Dennis Zimmerman officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
