Elmer Ernest Vonderheide, Brookville, was born Oct. 13, 1927, in St. Mary's, the son of Walter M. and Marie (Wallpe) Vonderheide.
Elmer was a 1945 graduate of Brookville High School. He served his country from 1945-47 in the United States Navy. On Oct. 15, 1949, at St. Michael's Rectory, Elmer wed Betty Sue Payne.
He and his partner, Bud Moster, owned and operated Bud and Elmer's Shell service station on Main Street for over 40 years. On Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at the age of 88, he passed away at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Betty Vonderheide; children, Elmer M. (Gayla), Batesville, Deborah (Russell) King, Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, Randall (Gail), Lafayette, David, Liberty, Kerry (Cathy), New Castle, and Irwin (Barbara), Allen (Shauna) and Mary (George) Buckler, Brookville; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brother, Harold (Julie), Brookville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by granddaughter Megan; daughter-in-law Jody; and brothers, Irwin B. and Walter L. Vonderheide.
Visitation is Sunday, March 13, from 2-6 p.m. at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, 929 Main Street, Brookville. A rosary will follow at 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial is Monday, March 14, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, Brookville. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Michael School.
