Doris Jean Powell, 78, Batesville, died Saturday, Sept. 5 at Margaret Mary Health.. Born Sept. 19, 1936, she was the daughter of Melvin and Lydia (Huneke) Steinfort. The 1954 Sunman High School graduate was a member of Adams Lutheran Church, where she was part of the Ladies Aid and a former choir member and organist. Doris also spent time volunteering at Margaret Mary Health and was a member of the Powell Family Singers.. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Joseph Powell; son James (Stephanie) Hill; stepchildren Terry (Rosemary) Powell, Bright, Kim (Vicky) Powell, Batesville, Robin (Gary) Schornick, Batesville, and Amy (David) Ruggles, Lexington, Kentucky; along with her sister, Phyllis Bergman, and brother Donnell (Loretta) Steinfort; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.. Visitation is Friday, Sept. 11, from 5-8 p.m. at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville. The funeral service is Saturday, Sept. 12, at 11 a.m. at Adams Lutheran Church with Pastor Roger Torns officiating. Burial follows in the church cemetery.. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Adams Lutheran Church General Fund in care of the funeral home.
