Donna J. Hamblin, 69, Moores Hill and formerly of Hamilton, Ohio, died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
Born May 20, 1947, in Hamilton, she was the daughter of Daria (Bredestege) and Kenneth Mitchell. She married Jack Hamblin Feb. 14, 1986, and he preceded her in death in November 2012.
A 1965 graduate of Notre Dame High School, Hamilton, she went on to graduate from the University of Cincinnati in 1974. Donna worked at Procter & Gamble for 27 years, retiring in 2001 from the IT department. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, was an associate of the Sisters of St. Francis Convent and a volunteer at the Batesville food pantry.
Donna had many interests. She enjoyed traveling, with a trip to Hawaii with her nieces among her favorites. An animal lover, she raised goats off and on and dearly loved all of her dogs she had through the years. She was a longtime Reds season ticket holder and a Cincinnati Bearcats football fan, liked an occasional trip to the boat, cherry cokes, playing 500, shrimp and good ribs even better. Her family teased her that any time there was a get-together, she and Jack would be the first to arrive and the first to leave.
Donna also kept in touch with many of her school friends, who still meet periodically. Family was important to her and while she adored her nieces and nephews, Donna had a unique relationship with the nieces. She was affectionately called "Aunt Chicken" since she held their purses while they would ride the rollercoaster. She would also take them shopping on their birthdays.
Donna is survived by her mother, Fairfield, Ohio; sisters Carolyn Berens, Jeffersonville, Marian (Mike) Smith, Hamilton, and Sister Daria Mitchell, O.S.F., Fairfield, Ohio; brothers Kenneth (Ila) Mitchell, Slidell, Louisiana, and Thomas (Mona) Mitchell, Hamilton; Jack's children Renee and Sean; her son Robert Schwab; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and father, she was also preceded in death by paternal grandparents Robert and Minnie Mitchell and maternal grandparents Frederick and Gertrude Bredestege.
Visitation is Monday, Sept. 26, from 5-8 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Holy Family Church with the Rev. David Kobak, O.F.M., officiating. A graveside service will be held at 12:15 p.m. at Arlington Cemetery, Cincinnati. The family requests memorials to the Batesville food pantry or the Sisters of St. Francis Associates Program.
