Arthur V. Smith Jr., 89, North Vernon, passed away at 9:39 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, at his residence.
The Rev. David Kobak will officiate a graveside service at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at Holy Family Cemetery, Oldenburg. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service, North Vernon.
Born March 27, 1927, in Indianapolis, Arthur was the son of Arthur and Esther (Judkins) Smith Sr. He graduated from Lawrence Central High School, Indianapolis. He married Betty Joan Bland, and she preceded him in death Oct. 12, 1977.
Arthur worked as a heavy equipment salesman and had served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, AMVETS, Knights of Columbus and St. Mary's Catholic Church, North Vernon. He enjoyed woodworking, painting and camping.
Survivors include two daughters: Kathy (Mike) Bischoff, Batesville, and Robin Smith, Miami; three sons: Arthur (Gerri) Smith III, Seymour, Anthony Smith, North Vernon, and Kelly (Katie) Smith, Chicago; a sister: Marjorie Winebrenner, Auburn; 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Kimberly Marie Bischoff, sisters Vera Ruth Smith and Donna Smith and brothers William Edward Smith and Robert Smith.
