William's Story

William E. "Dobber" Garrett, 81, St. Paul, passed away from complications of Parkinson's disease Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at Waldron Health and Rehab Center, Waldron.
He was born March 20, 1935, to Eugene and Virginia (Roedell) Garrett in Sandusky. He married Lynda (Hill) Garrett June 13, 1964, and she survives.
Other survivors include sons Curtis (Carri) Garrett, Monticello, Steven (Linda Wagner) Garrett, Greensburg, and Richard (Jackie) Colee, St. Paul; daughter Stacy (Jeffrey) Shouse, New Point; grandchildren Brooke (Matthew) Shoup, Indianapolis, Dr. Craig Shouse, Chicago, and Michael Colee, Waldron; great-grandchildren Caleb Shoup, Amelia Shoup and McKenzie Colee.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Judith Garrett.
Bill was a lifetime resident of St. Paul. He was a salesman for Monarch Beverage before retiring in 2000. He also was the owner/operator of Tree City Beverage and also Bill Garrett Trucking.
The St. Paul High School graduate was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, Moose Lodge and Fraternal Order of Police. He was a past president of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and also served as the St. Paul town marshall for 13 years, serving both Decatur and Shelby counties. The St. Paul Volunteer Fire Department 60-year member was also an Indiana Volunteer Firefighter Association member.
Bill loved his hobbies, which included attending Colts games and racing. He started racing midgets at the age of 19. He loved the outdoors. Bill never knew a stranger. He loved life, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.
In memory of Bill, the family has requested casual or Colts attire for the viewing and services.
They will be held Saturday, Jan. 14, at noon at Glenn E. George Funeral Home, St. Paul, with visitation from 10 a.m.-noon. Dr. Robb Barlow will be officiating. Burial will be at Paul Hill Cemetery there. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Paul Volunteer Fire Department or Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
