Mary E. Hazelwood, 74, Oldenburg, died Monday, June 13, 2016, at St. Andrews Health Campus.
Born Aug. 13, 1941, in Batesville, she was the daughter of Marcella (Galle) and Marion Merchen.
She was a homemaker and also worked for 15 years at Hill-Rom.
Throughout her life, Mary was always helping others. She would take friends to appointments who needed transportation, bring food to those under the weather or anonymously leave money at the grocery store for those who needed a helping hand. Mary also loved being with her family, especially the grandkids.
Some of her hobbies included collecting coins, flower gardening, working jigsaw puzzles, reading, which was usually something history related, as well as watching "Fox News" and "The Young and the Restless." A good cook and baker, everything she made was delicious and her family will especially miss her oatmeal cake. Mary also liked to travel and a recent trip to the Cayman Islands became one of her favorites.
She is survived by daughters Charlotte Lussier, Hermosa, South Dakota, Margie Richardson, Kenesaw, Nebraska, and Christine Hazelwood, Oldenburg; sons Charles Hazelwood, Batesville, and Keith Hazelwood, Oldenburg; and 11 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation is Monday, June 20, from 4-7 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home with a rosary service at 4 p.m. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Oldenburg, with the Rev. David Kobak, OFM, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Batesville Area Ministerial Association Food Pantry or Phi Beta Psi Sorority Cancer Research Fund.
