Louis E. Linkel, 88, Batesville, died suddenly Saturday, July 23, 2016, at Wellstar Atlanta Medical Center, Atlanta, Georgia.
Born Jan. 7, 1928, in Whitewater Township, Franklin County, he was the son of the late Edward A. and Clara (Minister) Linkel. On May 15, 1948, he and the former Evelyn L. Brack were united in marriage, and she preceded him in death March 12, 2005.
Lou was retired, having farmed and worked at the former Fry Roofing, Brookville; Indiana Department of Transportation; and was a former Franklin County commissioner. He was a member of the Metamora Masonic Lodge, Franklin County Republican Party and National Rifle Association. In his younger days he enjoyed hunting and fishing and the outdoors, and in later years being with family brought a great deal of contentment to him.
Survivors include two sons and three daughters-in-law, Bill and Jean Linkel, Tom and Dee Linkel and Juanita Linkel, Batesville; nine grandchildren; as well as 17 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, and wife, Evelyn, he was preceded in death by a son, John E. Linkel, who died May 2, 2016, and a sister, Carol Hall.
Family and friends may visit from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, July 28, 2016, at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville, where Masonic memorial services will be held at 7 p.m.
John Cleghorn will officiate the funeral services at 10 a.m. Friday, July 29, at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, with burial following in Maple Grove Cemetery, Brookville.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Franklin County Relay for Life or the Metamora Masonic Lodge Building Fund.
