Jerome's Story

Jerome V. Brinkman, 87, Batesville, passed away Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, at his home.. He was born Feb. 14, 1928, in Oldenburg, to William and Emma (Niese) Brinkman. On Sept. 8, 1951, he married Marilyn Baumer in Oldenburg. She died March 14, 2012.. Jerome was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. After many years, he retired from the Batesville Water & Gas Utility in 1990. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3183 and past member of American Legion Post 271.. Some of Jerry's enjoyments in life included playing Skip-Bo with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as playing cards with the "Boys" at the Bowery. Jerry will be remembered for his countless practical jokes he played on others and his passion for the Reds and the History Channel. The time, advice, wisdom and love he provided for those he cared for and cherished will never be forgotten.. He is survived by his son, Tom (Rosa) Brinkman; daughters Karla Binder and Kathy (the late Buddy) Riley; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; along with his sister, Anna Mae Osier.. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Karen Neukam; brothers William, Annas, Melvin and John Brinkman; and sisters Blanche Coburn and Arlene Moorman.. Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 15, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. with the funeral service and military honors immediately following at 1 p.m. at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville..
