James  Murphy


James Edward "Ed" Murphy, 70, a former Rush County resident, passed away July 13, 2016, in Sunman.
He was born July 12, 1946, in Rush County to Herschel and Ann (Flannery) Murphy. He spent his early life in Kentucky and many years in Rushville. He had lived in Sunman the last several years. He married Patricia Shelton July 21, 1995, and she survives.
Ed worked construction most of his life and also farmed tobacco in Kentucky many years. He had attended the Batesville Church on the Rock.
In addition to his wife Pat, Sunman, he is survived by sons, Jason (Sarah) Murphy, Milan, David (Amy) Burford, Osgood, and Arthur (Rhonda) Murphy, Georgetown, Kentucky; daughters, Linda Murphy, New Castle, Florence Jane Lopez, Carrolton, Kentucky, and Melissa Murphy (fiance' Jeremiah McClellan), Batesville; brothers, Glen (Teresa) Murphy, Metamora, Aliton (Sharon) Murphy, Peppertown, Steve Murphy, Buena Vista, and Herschel (Claytanna) Murphy, Osgood; sisters, Florence (Fulton) Bush, Kentucky, Betty Friend, Osgood, and Janie (Danny) Wolfe, Alabama; grandchildren, Vincent Vigil, Christopher, Josh and Drew Hall, Tristin, Mason and Ethan Murphy, James, Elizabeth and Joseph Burford, Brayden and Collin Murphy and Brittany and Shania Boyce.
Ed was preceded in death by a daughter, Vanessa Woods.
Services will be held at noon Saturday, July 16, at Church on the Rock, 407 N. Township Line Road Batesville. Friends are welcome to visit at the church from 10:30 a.m.-noon Saturday. Pastor Roger Dean will preside. Entombment will follow in the East Hill Shrine Mausoleum, Rushville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Moster Mortuary, Rushville, is entrusted with arrangements.
