James Edward Decker, 80, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015, at his home in Batesville.. Born May 10, 1935, in Batesville, he was the son of Averil (Dorsett) and the late Melvin Decker.. The 1953 graduate of Batesville High School went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Batesville Knights of Columbus Council 1461, Prell-Bland American Legion Post 271 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1183. Jim retired from Lancaster Colony Commercial Products as a sales manager.. Jim loved playing cards and the Sunday poker games at the Knights of Columbus. After returning from living in Las Vegas, he learned the game of Solo and said it was the most frustrating, yet wonderful game he had ever played. Jim will be remembered as the “Santa Man” for making many mailbox Santas.. On Jan. 20, 1984, in Columbus, Ohio, James married Marilyn Bennett, who survives. Also surviving are his mother, Pittsburgh; children Jamie (Bruce) Decker-Walden, Indianapolis, Jay (Sandy) Decker, Lexington, South Carolina, and Jason (Jill) Decker, Bettendorf, Iowa. He will also be missed by his grandchildren Whitney (Adam) Walden-Abdala, Ethan Walden, Tucker Walden, Nick Decker and Noah Decker along with his sister Janet Peters, Columbus.. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jackie Mederios.. A memorial service will be held later at the family's convenience.
