Herbert Kruse

Lt. Colonel Herbert T. Kruse, USAF Retired, age 89, of Bexley, Ohio, died Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at Kensington Place.
He was born September 29, 1928, in Sunman, Indiana, son of the late Aaron and Christina (Butt) Kruse. Herb was a 1950 graduate of Capital University. He also attended Penn State University where he received a master's degree in meteorology.
Herb retired in 1971 as a Lieutenant Colonel after 20 years with the United States Air Force. He was director of base operations at Lockbourne AFB, Lockbourne, Ohio, at the time of his retirement. He also served as a pilot and meteorologist during his military career.
Following his retirement from the military, he received his master's degree in business administration from Capital University, and went on to work as a budget analyst for the Office of Budget and Management of the State of Ohio for 20 years.
Herb is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and Grant Wolfe, Blacklick, Ohio. He is also survived by Beau, "his good little doggie"; sister-in-law, Betty Ann (Charles) Kalemjian, Exton, Pennsylvania; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Besides his parents, Herb was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lucy V. Kruse; stepson, Robert H. Green Jr.; and brothers, Paul and Lester Kruse.
He was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church, in Bexley, where he served as treasurer and church council member. In addition, he and Lucy chaired the youth committee for several years. He also participated in the weekly men's breakfast group. He was a former member of the Sertoma Club.
The family extends special thanks to the nurses, caregivers and staff at Kensington Place for their loving and gentle care. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday, June 29, at Schoedinger Midtown Chapel, 229 E. State St., Columbus, Ohio, and from 9-10 a.m. Saturday, June 30, at Christ Lutheran Church, 2314 E. Main St., Bexley, OH 43209, where the funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. Pastor Denny Asp and Pastor Thomas Wolfe will officiate. Interment will follow at Glen Rest Memorial Estates.
