George's Story

George F. Straight, 58, Sherrodsville, Ohio, formerly of Batesville, died Sunday night, June 4, 2017, in the Community Hospice Truman House, New Philadelphia, Ohio.
The son of the late George C. and Alice A. Rice Straight was born Sept. 20, 1958, in Minerva, Ohio.
He was a former sheet metal mechanic who worked for Moore Metal, Charleston, South Carolina, for 13 years. He was a member of Batesville United Methodist Church.
As a young man, George had an affection for attending fairs and carnivals. He enjoyed it enough that he traveled for awhile as a "carnie" running a Skee-Ball game. He volunteered as a Cub Scout Master while living in South Carolina and also coached youth soccer. His most relaxing entertainment was tent camping with his family, and he was fond of going to the beach. In his travels, George found it impossible to not stop at a yard sale. His last passion in life was to get the Alco Services LLC center in New Philadelphia operating so he could spend time with the resident children.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Kay Powell Straight, Batesville, whom he married March 12, 1994; a son, George Clifton Straight, and a daughter, Allison Jane Straight, both of Batesville; three brothers: Richard Straight, formerly of Kilgore, Ohio, James (Shelly) Straight, Malvern, Ohio, and Robert Straight, Sherrodsville; and seven sisters: Nancy (Arthur) Radford, Meadow Bridge, West Virginia, Joyce (David) Giles, Middlebourne, West Virginia, Dolly Pelley, Carrollton, Ohio, Laura (Louis) Stern, Wasolo, Missouri, Cynthia (Paul) Livengood, Kilgore, and Betty (Brian) Wells and Alice (Patrick) Cooper, both of Sherrodsville.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 25, at Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home, Sherrodsville, with the Rev. Doug Mallernee officiating. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Alco Services LLC, 1416 Kaderly St. NW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663 for children to attend respite camp.
