Elmer's Story

Elmer George Narwold, 92, Batesville, passed away Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015, at Margaret Mary Health.
Born June 15, 1923, in Batesville, he was the son of Harry and Nora(Bornemeier) Narwold. On June 14, 1952, he married Carol Dean at St. John United Church of Christ, Huntersville.
Elmer retired from Straber Oil Co. after 27 years. He also worked for the NYC Railroad Co. and served on the board of directors of Citizens Savings & Loan in Batesville for 30 years.
The 1941 graduate of Batesville High School was a member of St. John's UCC and sang in the Men's Choir and used to play on the church baseball team. He was also a member of the Batesville Masonic Lodge F&AM 668. Elmer enjoyed hunting and had hunted raccoons since he was a kid. He also liked listening to the Eureka Band at the park.
He will be missed by his children: Dale (Anita) Narwold and Marjorie (Irvin) Harmeyer, Batesville; six g r a n d c h i l d r en: Keith Harmeyer, Kimberly Rahe, Stephanie Anderson, Christina Robbins, Danny E. Narwold and Michelle Hensley; five great-grandchildren; along with his sister Florence Meyers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his brother Harold Narwold.
Visitation was Wednesday, Dec. 30, at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville. Funeral services were Thursday, Dec. 31, at St. John United Church of Christ with the Revs. Dennis and Linda Frische-Mouri officiating. Burial followed in the St. John (Huntersville) Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to St. John United Church of Christ in care of the funeral home.
