Doris Ertel

Doris E. Ertel, of Sunman, was born on November 25, 1921, in Cincinnati, Ohio, a daughter to James A. and Lydia E. Amm Smith.
She was a graduate of Western Hills High School, and on August 30, 1947, she married Edmund M. Ertel.
Her children expressed how she dedicated herself to caring for their family -- they always remember having a hot meal before school and being on time for church! Doris was a lifelong member of St. Nicholas Church and was involved in their Ladies Sodality for many years. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and cooking.
Doris was loved not only by her family, but caregivers as well and rarely was she seen without a smile on her face. Later she was very active in both her assisted living and nursing home communities, where she especially loved playing bingo.
On Tuesday, December 18, 2018, after a brief illness, she passed away at St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville.
Those surviving who will cherish Doris' memory include her children, Jackie (Richard) Tate of Sacramento, California, Mike (Andrea) Ertel of Sunman, Tom (Carolyn) Ertel of Greensburg, Gary (Kim) Ertel of Sunman, Linda (Michael) Boyce of Aurora, Carol (Dan) Ziegler of Sunman, Ted (Donna) Ertel of Sunman, and Susie (Rick) Collins of Sunman; 24 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; one niece and two nephews.
